Crossing Minds, a startup that provides AI-recommended systems to e-commerce businesses, said on Thursday that the team is joining Openai.

According to CrunchBase, the startup was backed by index ventures, Shopify, Plag and Play and Radical Ventures, raising more than $13.5 million in multiple rounds.

Crossing Minds has worked primarily with e-commerce companies to improve its personalization and recommendation systems. The company claims it is studying customer on-site behavioral data to gather insights into shopping preferences without compromising privacy.

“By participating in Openai, we can bring work and value to a mission that we deeply respect. We can ensure that artificial general information benefits all humanity. We are excited to bring experience and energy to the teams setting the future direction of AI.

One of the co-founders, Alexandre Robicquet, updated his bio on LinkedIn, which reads “Openai Research, Training and Agents.” It is not clear if the entire Crossing Minds team is participating in Openai.

The Crossing Mind website states that the company will not occupy any more clients. According to an archived About page, Crossing Mind previously stated that it was trusted by Intuit, humanity, Udacity and Chanel.

AI companies are building numerous tools to help their customers shop. While Google and Perplexity have launched AI features to improve recommendations, startups like Daydream have received massive investments to launch AI shopping assistants.

Earlier this year, Openai updated its ChatGPT to provide recommendations, images and reviews for items users are asking questions.

Openai did not immediately return a request for comment.
